The tour starts in Erkner, where the Spree River flows idyllically into the Dämeritzsee lake. The path leads through the wooded Grünheide lake district. More than eight lakes are strung together like pearls, inviting visitors with hidden swimming spots and tranquil shores.
The scenery opens up to vast expanses, and the view is dominated by wide open spaces. The route continues briskly past Lake Trebus to Fürstenwalde. Thanks to the Spree River, the city was an important trading hub and flourished, as evidenced today by the imposing St. Mary's Cathedral, a rich brewing tradition, and the industrial heritage showcased in fascinating museums.
Cool stretches of forest follow. The Oder-Spree Canal is crossed at the photogenic flood bridge, shortly before it merges with the Spree River. The Kersdorf Lock marks another highlight. This imposing structure is part of the Oder-Spree Canal, which in 1891 made the dream of a connection between the Oder, Spree, and Berlin a reality for larger ships.
Between the canal on one side and the Spree River on the other, the path leads gently to Neubrück. The village boasts two locks: the rushing Spree weir and the Neuhaus lock with its charming wooden drawbridge on the feeder canal. The path continues to Müllrose and the Kleiner and Großer Müllroser See (Little and Great Müllrose Lakes).
