Directions:
When you arrive at the train station in Strausberg, keep left and follow Wilkendorfer Weg until you reach the left turnoff Roter Hof. Follow this for a short while until you turn left into Erlengrund and can start your bike tour directly by the lake.
Kick-off in Strausberg, the green city on the lake
The S5 takes you from Ostkreuz to Strausberg Nord in just 45 minutes, from where you follow the "Historic City Center Route 1" towards Altlandsberg. Finally, you can breathe deeply and enjoy the magnificent views of the Straussee and the forests opposite. You cycle relaxed through the old town of Strausberg, with information points on the "Seesichten" providing background information, e.g. in the dreamy Fischerkietz. You pass the jetty of the electric ferry and the historic lakeside bathing establishment. If you wish, you can dive into the refreshing water at several natural bathing spots.
Exhilarated through the forest
In Eggersdorf you pass by the Bötzsee. At the lido with boat rental and near the lakeside castle you can take a break, for example for a paddle or to try some hand-made sorbet. The bikes roll on through the "Strausberg and Blumenthal forest and lake area", as the landscape conservation area is called here. You glide almost by yourself on the perfect bike path through the green-scented forest. The many sweeping curves make you cheer inside and are really fun!
Princely ambience in Altlandsberg
After ¾ of the route you reach Altlandsberg, which has a completely preserved town center and beautiful old town houses. The castle estate with its castle church, extensive estate grounds and park is the ideal place to plan a stopover. The young Prince Friedrich strolled through the baroque pleasure garden here. The future King of Prussia wanted to promote his well-being in the countryside. You can do that too: with a refreshing spritzer, a fruity pale ale or other natural craft beer variants from the local brewery. Local delicacies are available in the regional shop. Regional is in, and so is sustainability: the castle estate generates its own forest bioenergy for the area.
The return journey to Berlin takes you over the green ramparts and past the Insta-worthy bicycle yard. It's worth taking a photo of the more than 120 bicycle frames on the impressive facade before boarding the S-Bahn in Neuenhagen. Alternatively, you can cycle from Altlandsberg to Hönow. This way, you'll fly over the best cycling asphalt and wide fields towards the evening sun, ending your country trip at the city limits on the U5.
