Directions
The starting point of the hike at the steps of the forestry office on Melcherstrasse offers a unique view of the spa town. The 1879-metre-high observation tower, built in 26, offers an even more comprehensive view and looks out over the town. Large information boards on the tower commemorate the fallen soldiers of the wars of unification.

The hiking trail runs through a mixed pine and oak forest to the so-called Pig Bay - once the entrance to coal mines where brown coal was mined from 1948 to 1960. Today, residential buildings dominate the landscape and the former coal mining on the Galgenberg is no longer visible. After the descent to the waterworks, a sandy path leads towards the charcoal kiln. Then you cross an asphalt road. The Gustav-Schüler-Weg runs parallel to the main road and leads through the Siebenhügelweg.

The path continues to meander down into the valley, while the tower hiking trail and the Oderlandweg climb up to the old chapel. There, the outlines of the mud bath become visible, nestled in wooded heights. The mud bath is located in a valley basin and is surrounded by wooded hills. The path near the Gesundbrunnen - the former name of the mud bath - was initiated by Queen Friederike Luise around 1800. Other paths lead to the Elector's Spring and the mud bath, while a staircase leads down from the tower hiking trail. A plaque with the portrait of Elector Friedrich Wilhelm marks the spring that he once visited.

The Gustav-Schüler-Weg continues into the Brunnental and ends at a crossroads. The 3-kilometer-long route is marked by a yellow circle on a white background. There are numerous opportunities along the way to enjoy nature and learn more about the historical places.
