The kayak adventure can begin.
Relaxation as soon as you arrive
You get off the train and are only a few hundred meters from the entrance to the Löcknitz Valley. You can explore part of it yourself on the enchanted Löcknitz River. But before you set off on your canoe adventure, you can take a deep breath on a short section of the 66 Lakes Trail. This trail takes you in around 30 minutes from Fangschleuse train station through the fragrant forest to the Gottesbrück district and directly to Frank Pfennig from Funny's boat rental. Frank comes from an old family of boat builders and is happy to lend you a canoe - kayak or Canadian - and give you tips for your tour.
Upstream or downstream?
The Löcknitz is narrow, unspoilt and flat. Mostly it flows at a leisurely pace, but it can also flow faster here and there. Rotten trees that have fallen over in the river, half grow into it and peek out of the water make your tour a real micro-adventure. Then you have to maneuver, but don't worry, even beginners can do it! In some places you get the impression that you are paddling on a meadow, the water is so clear and you can see fish and the lush green of the rich aquatic plants. Can you spot the beaver dam and the kingfisher? The section upstream is particularly wild and close to nature, and you can paddle up to the next bridge. Behind it is an absolute protected area, where the "Amazon" then spreads further east.
Round trip around the Löcknitz Island
You can start a recommended tour from Gottesbrück towards the west. It meanders and is varied on the motorboat-free Old Löcknitz in a wonderful landscape: huge ferns, willows and alders on the banks, wild and beautiful. Do you dare to walk past the four giant frogs? The stone statues on the frog bridge have been guarding the river since the 4s. Finally, the Old Löcknitz joins the New Löcknitz and the route heads back towards Gottesbrück. If you still have time, you can combine your tour with a detour to Werlsee.
Relaxed atmosphere: Werl and Peetzsee
If you prefer a more leisurely pace on the lake, then rent a Canadian canoe from the boat rental at Peetzsee and explore Peetzsee and Werlsee with their beautiful bathing spots. You might also want to go around Lindwall Island, also known as the Love Island, which lies heart-shaped in Werlsee. In earlier times it was a campsite, but today it is more of a lost place and nature reserve.
If you are hungry after the tour, the small FUNNY'S shipyard café offers refreshments, a small snack and a selection of organic products from Friday to Sunday. Alternatively, you can end the day at Heydewirth with its idyllic beer garden by the lake or at Il Borgo before heading back to the big city.
