At eye level with nature
Not far from the city gates there is an idyllic river landscape that you can discover from a different perspective. Exploring the multifaceted banks of the Spree and Müggelspree with all their flora and fauna from the water offers you a great nature experience and real relaxation.
The RE1 takes you to Fürstenwalde on the Spree in under an hour, from where our two tour tips for late risers start.

Tip 1: let yourself drift with the current on the Müggelspree.
Our first tour option leads to the idyllic Müggelspree. The not too long paddling tour has a gentle current and is also suitable for beginners and families with idyllic bathing and rest areas. More than two thirds of the route is without any motorboat traffic and offers you the ultimate nature experience. Despite its proximity to the capital, the Müggelspree is a beautiful, winding small river. A canoe tour can hardly be more beautiful.

At the beginning you glide over the water on a canalized section of the Spree and pass wildly overgrown oxbows of the Spree. At the Große Tränke the Müggelspree branches off at a lock. The river, which has been renaturalized in many areas, now winds its way in wide meanders through a varied forest and meadow landscape. Pure idyll, perfect for relaxing!
You also have enough time for picnics and swimming breaks. Simply pull your boat onto the bank and jump into the clear Spree water! The current continues through the curves. The meanders make the route interesting and varied. Herons, swans and ducks are your constant companions. The beaver is also visibly doing its work here. You will not reach civilization again until shortly before the destination in Hangelsberg.

Tip 2: on the Fürstenwalder Spree To the wreck of the Hedwig
Our second tour option takes you to the wreck of the "Hedwig". This lost place is a real insider tip. It is unlikely that you will meet other visitors here. The 120-year-old tugboat once pulled large barges across the water. Today it lies quiet and hidden in a remote branch of the Spree. Motorboats are not allowed access, but you can explore the exciting wreck in peace with your canoe.

Your tour starts at the boat rental in Fürstenwalde directly on the Fürstenwalde Spree. It goes upstream towards Kersdorf and past the mixed feed factory and the last houses in Fürstenwalde. There is usually not much going on on the Spree, a barge might glide leisurely past you. A first stop is the Berkenbrück water hiking rest area. Paddlers who are doing the long, multi-day Märkische Umfahrt also like to stop here. The small beach with a jetty is great for swimming and you can enjoy yourself on the terrace of the Strandidyll excursion restaurant.

The next section is exciting: past the Streitberg water hiking rest area, you have to look for the well-hidden entrance to a narrow waterway. Because only behind it, in a former arm of the Spree embedded in a spacious pasture, do you find the final resting place of the Hedwig. It is said that the last owner died here in the engine room in the 1960s. And when a weir blocked off the Spree arm, the now ownerless ship was left to its final fate. Take your time to walk around the wreck and enjoy the peace and quiet of nature. Finally, you head downstream back to Fürstenwalde. A quick visit to the city center near the cathedral or to one of the surrounding restaurants and cafés is worthwhile to end your day in a relaxed manner.
