On this 2-day canoe tour, you will experience the Spree in this section very calmly, as all shipping after Fürstenwalde travels via the Oder-Spree Canal. After a short stretch on the canalized Spree, you turn into the Müggelspree at the Große Tränke. Thanks to the light current, your canoe now floats downstream very comfortably through the winding area with extensive pastures on the created floodplains. These create particularly romantic images with the mist rising in the early morning.
You cover the first few kilometers via Hangelsberg, Mönchwinkel and Spreeau on the Spree, which is narrow here. At the end of this relaxed day's tour, you dock in Spreenhagen or pitch your tent nearby at the Jägerbude campsite right on the Spree. From there, you can reach the popular Dämeritzsee in the middle of Erkner the next day. This medium-sized town bordering the south-eastern outskirts of Berlin is home to the Gerhart Hauptmann Museum, which exhibits, among other things, his historic tailcoat for his Nobel Prize for Literature award ceremony.
The famous Woltersdorf lock is also very close by. You can get there via the Flakensee and take a look at the beautiful area from the observation tower on Kranichberg, which is within walking distance. A trip to the most water-rich district of Berlin, Köpenick (day trip 12), is also just a few paddle strokes away from here.
Tip: In Erkner, those interested in culture should not miss a visit to the Gerhart Hauptmann Museum. The writer spent four fundamental years in Erkner. The museum has a permanent exhibition. In addition, events are held there regularly.
