travel tip
Once you arrive at the train station, keep right and walk along Bahnhofstrasse until you reach the left turn onto Karl-Marx-Strasse. Not far away, your hiking adventure starts at the Rothen Mühle.
Off to the Falkenberg Heights!
It's almost midday, but your feet are itching? You need some exercise and want to really get out into the quiet nature? Then head to the health resort of Falkenberg! In just over an hour on the RE3 or RB24 from Berlin via Eberswalde, the cute RB60 will take you to the small community on the hilly Barnim plateau, which is full of forests and lakes. Here on the border with the Oderbruch you get off and see the Falkenberg Heights in the background. Past the Rothen Mill by the small stream, you head straight into the first climb.
Via the Kammweg to the Watzmann in Brandenburg
You first hike on the Oderlandweg through a beautiful forest. You continue on the ridge trail to the turnoff to the Bismarck Tower. The 20-minute detour will be worth it. You have to climb around a hundred steps and another 30 meters up a wooden spiral staircase to get to the viewing platform. Here you can enjoy the wide view over the hills and gorges of the Oberbarnim Mountains and the Niederoderbruch with the island of Neuenhagen, the Niederfinow boat lift and the Schorfheide. The view is particularly impressive in autumn, when the dense beech forests are ablaze in the most beautiful shades of red - the Brandenburg "Indian Summer".
Have you ever been to the Watzmann? No, then get ready for your first ascent! The short detour to the Watzmann in Brandenburg, which is located at an altitude of 1.062 meters, presents you with an impressive summit cross!
prospect with reward
We slowly head back towards Falkenberg past the Schmiedeberg and Paschenberg. You will reach the last highlight of your late riser tour through a rustic, natural beech forest. With the fantastic view from the Carlsburg, we agree with Fontane and let the day end in a relaxed manner: "What makes it particularly attractive as a vantage point is the distinctive beauty of the foreground, the village of Falkenberg itself, over whose ravines, roofs and towers the view sweeps across to the wide, green area of the Bruch." Treat yourself once again: the popular tourist restaurant with a panoramic restaurant offers refreshments and rustic culinary delights from the region.
Plan your late-riser tour to the Brandenburg mountains now!
Extra tip:
- The great summiteer tour: over 25km one way from Falkenberg to Bad Freienwalde, 4 towers, even more great views and almost 1.000 meters of altitude! But be careful: if the tour is too difficult, your fitness was too weak ;)
