Flora and fauna
From Buckow, the traditional center of Märkische Schweiz, the path leads in all directions to the nature park route. Here, 250 different species of birds, including rare ones such as the black stork and sea eagle, share their habitat with beavers, otters and other animals. Lagoon-like streams, ponds and small lakes are reminiscent of magical fairytale landscapes.
gorges and ravines
The gorges are particularly dramatic. The deep cuts in the landscape are evidence of ice age meltwater streams. And the ups and downs impressively convey the mountainous character of the Brandenburg "mini Alps".
Schweizer Haus
Anyone who would like to learn more about the flora, fauna and geological origins of Märkische Schweiz should visit the Schweizer Haus, the visitor center of the nature park administration, in Buckow. It is not without reason that the nature park route was chosen by the "Wanderbares Deutschland" association as one of the 10 most beautiful hiking trails in Germany.
