From the mountain to the valley describes the tour from Bad Freienwalde to Wriezen aptly. In Bad Freienwalde, the oldest spa town in Brandenburg, it is worth looking back. Behind the town rises the Oberbarnim mountain range. This too is a legacy of the Ice Age.
But don't worry! There are no mountain stages on the 61 kilometers through the Oderbruch! Rather, it is a journey through a special landscape that would not exist without the Prussian King Frederick II. The drained former inland delta of the Oder is so flat that the view can wander uninterrupted over the landscape.
A large part of the tour runs along the Oder-Neisse cycle path. The cycle path along the German-Polish border is one of the most beautiful river cycle paths in Germany. At Bienenwerder you can cross the Oder over the Europa Bridge and cycle into neighboring Poland.
Do you know Viadrus? That is the name of the river god of the Oder and of the river itself. There is a sculpture depicting him on the Field Marshal's Hill in Güstebieser Loose. A few kilometers away is the Groß Neuendorf cultural harbor. You can take a break here between small galleries and cafés.
After the Oderbruch was drained, colonists founded new villages here. These colonists' villages all have the syllable "new" in their name. This is also the case with the town of Neubarnim, which has the longest linden tree avenue in Brandenburg. Incidentally, Norman Ohler wrote a historical crime novel called "The Equation of Life" about the time when the Oderbruch was drained.
Our advice: A round of swinging in the cultural harbor of Groß Neuendorf!
