Directions
For more than half a century, the Oderbruch Railway was something of a lifeline for the region. The first groundbreaking took place in 1910, and the first section was put into operation a year later. The last section was opened in 1912. There were over 40 stations on the 111 kilometers of the Oderbruch Railway. It connected the small and large towns of the Oderbruch and at the same time provided a connection to the city of Berlin. The trains of the Oderbruch Railway mainly transported the produce of farmers as well as the products of the sugar and starch factories and distilleries to Berlin. The last train of the Oderbruch Railway ran between Dolgelin and Seelow in 1994. The other sections of the line were closed in the 1960s and 1970s. This era is brought back to life in the Letschin Railway Museum. Old signal boxes can be seen here, as well as a Prussian compartment car.

Today, the Oderbruchbahn cycle path leads through the quiet landscape of the Oderbruch. And is also a journey back to the beginning of the 20th century and the history of rail transport. In Groß Neuendorf, there is more than just a large swing waiting for you to take a break. In the past, a lot of goods were transshipped here, and today cyclists can spend the night in a railway carriage - with a view of the Oder, of course.
The main route of the cycle path on the former Oderbruchbahn leads from Fürstenwalde/Spree (or alternatively from Müncheberg) to Wriezen. There are several branches along the route. From Müncheberg, it is worth taking a detour to the health resort of Buckow (Märkische Schweiz), a few kilometers away, with the Buckower Kleinbahn Museum.

In Wriezen, the tour can be extended to Bad Freienwalde. And if you haven't been to Zollbrücke yet, take the turnoff towards Oderdeich in Karlshof. Incidentally, there are so many apple trees along the route because passengers used to throw their apple remains out of the window during the journey.
