Start in tranquil Buckow
You can make the stress-free journey from Berlin, which takes just over an hour, particularly iconic. Instead of taking the bus, take the lovingly maintained Buckower Kleinbahn from Müncheberg - a traveling museum that takes you through the forest and into tranquil Buckow in 14 minutes.
If you decide to walk clockwise, you will come to the first magnificent view of the lake on the Bismarckhöhe. The path continues past the Brecht-Weigel-Haus. Today an authentic place of German literary history, the artist couple spent many summers in the pretty house during their lifetime.
Wild, protected and clear
On the way to the Weißer See, the small neighbor of the Schermützelsee, you will pass some particularly wild and swampy areas on the trail. It is almost reminiscent of the Everglades in Florida. Although you won't come across any alligators, other protected species such as beavers, otters, kingfishers, whitefish and wolffish live here. But coots and grey herons also appreciate the protected areas designated in the nature reserve, which include the entire Schermützelsee. As a clear water lake, it also has impressive water quality with visibility between four and eight meters!
On the high trail
A highlight: the panoramic high trail. This section of your tour lives up to its name and offers you changing views of the turquoise Schermützelsee and the idyllic Buckow opposite. Information boards from the nature park administration provide information about the impressive gorges and ravines on the western shore. If you're already feeling hungry, head to the Fischerkehle restaurant and treat yourself to a meal on the terrace above the lake. The ups and downs are a good way to get moving. Breathe in the smell of the forest floor and leaves deeply - it's pure relaxation!
Kneipp therapy on the Stobber
Your tour ends in Buckow, the pretty little town right on the lake. Small streets with farmer's houses and villas lead to the market with cafes and restaurants. You can refresh yourself at the official lido with a wooden diving tower or at the water treading spots run by health guru Kneipp: right on the lake and on the Stobber river near the water mill in the castle park. Stroll a little through the old town, treat yourself to an ice cream, snack or coffee and then make your way back to the big city, refreshed and relaxed.
