Description
The tour begins in the charming farming town of Müllrose – with sweeping views of the largest lake in the Schlaube Valley. The path leads along the shore through tall pine forests and marshy meadows to Lake Belenz with its breeding waterfowl. Here, the whispering of the Schlaube River can be heard for the first time and leads to the Ragow Mill, a place steeped in history and perfect for a break by the now rushing stream. The route continues past wooded glacial gullies and green carpets of lichen. Short detours offer a glimpse of the past at the lost-place Mittelmühle (Middle Mill) and a sense of the stream's dynamics at the Meander View, before the Schlaube flows briskly under the bridge at Kupferhammer.
From a narrow, rushing stream, the Schlaube River now changes its appearance again and again—mostly flowing gently and hidden in the five lakes that follow. The trail leads through the mountainous Schlaube channel, past wild, Amazon-like branches to Siehdichum. Perched on a secluded hilltop lies the forester's lodge, a quiet place to rest and recharge, steeped in legendary history. Magical views of glacially formed lakes and mighty trees on the banks are fascinating companions all the way to the Bremsdorf Mill.
The final section becomes adventurous: The Schlaube River leads the way uphill and on to its mystical source. It winds in tight curves, following the river's course beneath mighty beech trees into cool, shady areas. The elevation differences of the steep hillside forests on the left and right are clearly noticeable, until it becomes light and peaceful. In a clearing stands the Kieselwitz Mill, where fish are still bred using the water from the Schlaube. Then, at the finale, a spectacular view of the Schlaube Canyon awaits – a deeply cut valley section formed over millennia. A little further on, at the former Schlaube Mill, the journey through the fascinating Schlaube Valley ends for the time being.
