The circuit around Brandenburg's largest lake is perfect for a weekend trip - with or without an overnight stay. If you take your time, you will discover the many beautiful faces of the 13 square kilometer lake, which owes its formation to the Ice Age. In the morning, when the mist rises over the Spree meadows, and in the evening, when the setting sun bathes everything in violet light. In between, the blue of the water flashes through the trees - the perfect guide on the tour. If the weather plays along, you should definitely bring your swimwear on this bike tour.

pure Australian feeling
The Schwielochsee tour begins in the medieval town of Beeskow with its historic town centre and the Spree that meanders through the town, with St. Mary's Church and the castle, which is a cultural centre with its museums, exhibitions and high-profile events. On the way to Ranzig, you can take a first tasty break in the local butcher's shop and fortify yourself with regional sausage and meat products. And if you need to cool off now, you can plunge into the water at Ranziger See. The next stop should definitely be in Trebatsch. Here, a small museum tells the life story of the man that every schoolchild in Australia knows: Ludwig Leichhardt.

The famous explorer was born in 1813 in the Sabrodt district and devoted himself to the continent, which was still largely unknown at the time. The Ludwig Leichhardt Society honors his life's work with events, a signposted circular hiking trail and exhibitions that can be viewed at the museum by prior appointment by telephone. There is even more Australia at the campsite in Zaue, where a few kangaroos hop around and live.

Even in hot temperatures, you shouldn't shy away from this bike tour, as there are countless opportunities for unadulterated bathing fun. For example, in Goyatz on the Ludwig-Leichhardt-Ufer.

The next major stop is in Friedland, where you can visit the third of the three Strele castles in the Oder-Spree Lake District. The Knights of Strele came from the former burgraviate of Strehla on the Elbe in what is now Saxony and built a dense network of moated castles with Storkow Castle and the castles in Beeskow and Friedland. The coat of arms of the town of Friedland still allows clear conclusions to be drawn about the castle's rule in 1307.

Paradise for water lovers
If you don't have enough time, you can take a detour to the town of Glowe and the lake of the same name. There is another highlight here for all those with a sweet tooth. In the "Glower Eck" you can enjoy an ice cream or small snacks on the sun terrace before starting the return journey to Beeskow. The highlight of this extensive bike tour is and remains the Schwielochsee. Water as far as the eye can see and a wonderful landscape make the tour a real nature experience - not just in summer.
