The historic market square, the long city wall and the widely visible St. Mary's Church complete the medieval experience on the Spree.
The route continues to Beeskow, directly along the Spree, which flows very calmly and peacefully in this section. The flat route is not very strenuous, so you have plenty of time to enjoy the beautiful course of the river while cycling. Wildly overgrown river banks and untouched meadows are a habitat for a diverse range of flora and fauna. With a bit of luck, you will spot otters, foxes, herons and cranes looking for food along the way. Be sure to take a break on the river bank and enjoy the peace of nature while looking up at the sky. And of course, don't forget to go for a swim. There are small swimming spots along the Spree along the way.
If you can see the church tower of Fürstenwalde Cathedral, you are getting closer and closer to the capital. The former bishop's seat also has many historical architectural monuments and a varied cultural offering to offer. St. Mary's Cathedral with its valuable sacrament house is only one of two in Brandenburg. And the vault of the historic town hall is a reminder of the city's centuries-old brewing tradition. So it's worth putting your bike down for a while and discovering the city's charm.
Before you get on the S-Bahn in Erkner, you should visit the Gerhart Hauptmann Museum. The poet spent formative years in the city on the Spree that were crucial to his later literary work. The museum in the Villa Lassen now provides an exciting insight into the life and work of the Nobel Prize winner for literature.
