Ride on one of the most popular cycle paths in Germany, always keep the border rivers in view and forget everyday life in no time! The Oder-Neisse cycle path with its green triangle symbol crosses the Oder-Spree lake district over a total length of 152 kilometers. On this section described here, cyclists enjoy breathtaking nature and explore exciting places such as Neuzelle, Eisenhüttenstadt and Frankfurt (Oder).
Start: Coschen train station
Objective: Frankfurt (Oder) train station
Length: 62 km; 3,5 hours
How to Arrive: RE2 to Cottbus, RB43 or RE1 to Frankfurt (Oder), RE10
Departure: RE1 from Frankfurt (Oder)
Along the dike to the Cross of Encounter
Having arrived in Coschen by train, it is worth making a first detour to the bridge leading to neighboring Poland with the pleasant-sounding name "Neisse Wave". Participants are staying in Germany today, however, and are heading for the country's easternmost cycle path. It is actually impossible to get lost. The Oder-Neisse cycle path mostly runs along the dyke, where you can enjoy the view from the saddle and be amazed by the natural scenery. You soon reach Ratzdorf and the point where the Neisse and Oder kiss. The mouth is marked with a large wooden cross. The water gauge house showed a sad record level of 1997 meters during the flood of the century in 6,76. The "Kajüte" is also located nearby, a cultural center that puts on a great program of events, especially in summer.
Architectural Journey Through Time
A little further on, it is advisable to deviate from the Oder-Neisse cycle path and take a detour to the resort town of Neuzelle. Brandenburg's baroque wonder with its museums and monastery garden is simply a must-see. A few kilometers to the north, another highlight awaits: Eisenhüttenstadt. The planned city was built specifically for the steelworks in the 1950s and is now considered one of the largest and most interesting area monuments in Germany.
Downstream to the German-Polish twin city
If you are not in a hurry, you should stop every now and then along the way, get off the dyke and go straight to the Oder. There is something calming about the way the water of the great Oder flows past you. The only thing that indicates that a border runs here are the black, red and gold border posts. In the Kleist city of Frankfurt (Oder), you should definitely not get on the train straight away, because there is still so much to see: St. Mary's Church with its valuable choir windows, where you can enjoy fantastic views from the church tower, the world's only Kleist Museum or the many great gardens and parks.
Tip: Take the ferry from Aurith to Urad and enjoy the view from the observation tower! Please find out about the ferry service in advance!
