A little to the north is the district of Strausberg Nord, which you can reach with the S5 S-Bahn line. Here you can discover a very special place for aviation enthusiasts. The Strausberg airfield is just a 10-minute walk from the train station. It can look back on a 70-year history of change. Until 1992, the airfield was used primarily for military purposes and was home to the government air squadron until the end of the GDR. What probably few people know is that the Strausberg airfield is now one of the most frequently used landing sites for small motor aircraft and gliders in northeast Germany. A historical aviation museum and an exhibition of various aircraft provide an exciting insight into the history of aviation. If you want to fly a plane yourself, you can treat yourself to an hour's flight by booking in advance for a fee, or you can take a sightseeing flight over Strausberg to admire the town and the beautiful lake from above. After an educational visit to the museum, families with children and animal lovers can take a detour to the nearby children's farm "Roter Hof" with a petting zoo and new children's playground.
