Arriving at the Strausberg S-Bahn station, walk along Josef-Zettler-Ring to An der Stadtmauer street and keep left. Then turn onto Karl-Liebknecht-Straße. From there you can already see Straussee lake and the adventure can begin.
Take the S-Bahn directly to the lake
The start is at Strausberg station, where the S5 takes you from the big city to the green city on the lake, as the locals affectionately call their Strausberg, in around 45 minutes. Only a few hundred meters separate you from your first view of the Straussee. After a short walk through the medieval town center and along the city wall, you reach the pier of the Straussee ferry. You are greeted by the fresh smell of the lake, the ducks and swans, and a few rudd frolicking in the particularly clear water.
Climate-friendly into the “afterlife” and into nature
Now it's time to take the ferry across and enjoy the gentle breeze. The crossing takes 7 minutes and offers fantastic panoramic views of Strausberg's old town. Fun fact: the Straussee ferry is the only electrically powered passenger cable ferry in Europe. For over 100 years, it has connected the town center with the forest area "Beyond the Lake," where you can continue your late-riser tour.
Here on the western shore of Lake Straussee, you'll find many secluded natural swimming spots along the wooded lakeside path. Sunny and shady areas alternate, and you can enjoy the beautiful view of the lake at every turn. The shoreline is almost entirely open to the public. The water is clear and clean, with visibility up to 7 meters, and if you look closely, you can see the green eelgrass meadows shimmering through. There are no noisy motorboats, the lake is teeming with fish, and you'll observe many water birds.
Quiet old town atmosphere
The tour takes you along the northern shore back to the eastern side of the lake. Before you delve into the historic old town, you'll again pass by small spots and idyllic grassy areas along the shore, offering space for you and your blanket. Enjoy the relaxed atmosphere!
Towards the end of the tour, you should turn off Klosterstraße into the charming fishing village. Traditionally, fishing was the livelihood of the villagers. Today, a small, idyllic viewing platform is tucked away here. Several information points along the "Lake Views" trail, which you'll encounter throughout your tour, provide further background information. The well-preserved city fortifications with its city wall, the ramparts, and the remains of the Landsberg Gate tower are also worth a stop.
Straussee Sundowner
Before you start your return journey by S-Bahn: how about a sundowner with a view over the lake? In the elegant restaurant in the Fischerkiez, in the casual Amiceria or simply on the Strausseepromenade, you can watch the sun go down and let your tour come to an end.
