“Please close the pasture gate for the sheep again!” In this idyllic stream valley you will slow down in another world.

You want to get out into nature, but don't feel like driving far? It's simple: the Regional Express 1 takes you from the hectic city life straight into the natural idyll in just 20 minutes. Just beyond the city limits, near the Berlin garden neighbors between Fangschleuse, Erkner and Woltersdorf, this short late riser tour lets you immerse yourself in the wild, romantic atmosphere of the Löcknitz river. Follow the 66-lakes hiking trail on a natural trail, through rustic forest, swamp landscape and small meadows that you share with peaceful sheep. Impressive trees with low-hanging branches, huge ferns and lush green: in some places you will feel like in the jungle feel.

Your late riser highlights:
  • Short journey by train/S-Bahn
  • predominantly narrow, natural paths
  • forest Baden at Löcknitz, Wupatz and Flakensee
  • snack stops in Erkner or at the Woltersdorf lock

travel tip
Once you arrive at the train station in Fangschleuse, keep left and follow the L23 until you see the entrance to the Löcknitz valley on the left.

In the “Löcknitz Jungle” sheep and (stone) frogs are in charge
You get off the train and only a few hundred meters separate you from the entrance to the Löcknitz Valley. You set off on the 66-Lakes Trail, following the winding Old Löcknitz. You hear the pine needles cracking under your shoes, listen to the chiffchaff chirping its name, or simply pause. Finally, take a deep breath.
The trail also leads over natural pastures. Please always close the wooden gates, as friendly sheep graze here in the seemingly wild nature. With a little persuasion, the constantly chewing landscape gardeners will come closer. If not, it's worth taking a selfie with one of the stone frogs that guard the clear river on a bridge.

Mystical Wupatzsee
After crossing the Old and New Löcknitz over beautiful wooden bridges, you will pass by the Wupatzsee, which is lined with reeds and alders. Perhaps you are there when the water lilies are in bloom or you can enjoy the many lilies of the valley in spring. The Wupatz nature trail provides information about natural features. Once you arrive in Erkner, you can stop off for ice cream or home-roasted coffee before you head to the train.

Optional finale: forest poetry and a swim in the Flakensee
Perhaps you would like to extend your late-riser tour and follow the Löcknitz to the Woltersdorf lock. The path offers wonderful views of the Flakensee, benches invite you to linger and small bathing areas for splashing around. The forest poetry path that runs here combines nature and literature on information boards. Fontane is also not far away.
You can round off your tour in the restaurants at the Woltersdorf lock, for example with cake, snacks or home-brewed beer in the beer garden. After a good rest, you can take the tram, sometimes in historic carriages, to the Rahnsdorf S-Bahn station and back into the urban jungle.

Refreshment tips: DEKAFFEE Erkner, Eiskaffee Bürgerle, Badebar Erkner, Schleuse Woltersdorf
