Since 1862, when Fontane described the "Buckow Canton" in his "Wanderungen durch die Mark Brandenburg", the stream of nature-hungry visitors has never stopped, who want to immerse themselves in a world of healthy nature, culture and tradition. Buckow is not only a Kneipp health resort, but with its six lakes, parks and promenades, walking paths, hotels and restaurants and its special atmosphere, it is the pearl of Märkische Schweiz. Without a doubt, the Schermützelsee, with 145 hectares, is the largest lake in Märkische Schweiz and at the same time the center of the town and the region. Its emerald green water exudes a special magic and invites you to swim, row or fish. A trip on the motorboat is just as much a "must" on a Buckow trip as a ride on the museum railway, which takes guests from Müncheberg station to the small "Kneipp capital" as it did 120 years ago. Today, as in the past, artists and creative minds discover Buckow as an island and source of inspiration. The most prominent summer guests were the artist couple Bertolt Brecht and Helene Weigel, who lived in their summer house until their deaths. The house still serves as a memorial and museum to commemorate these important representatives of the theater arts. Visits to the Railway Museum, the Ice Age Garden or the “Zum Alten Warmbad” gallery guarantee a varied excursion.
