natural beauty and history
Lebus, the cathedral city, is gone, but Lebus, which three hundred years ago was a busy winegrower, still exists. At least in terms of landscape. Not that it still grows wine on its mountain slopes, but it has retained the picturesque character of a wine-growing town.Fontane from "Wanderungen durch die Mark"

The ice age moraine plateau, the Lubusz Plateau, with Eastern European steppe areas along today's border with Poland, contains thousands of years of historical and cultural treasures from different regions. As "Ziemia Lubuska" it was part of the Duchy of Poland, later belonging to the Kingdom of Prussia and the German Empire.
After the Second World War, the eastern side of the Oder became a voivodeship (`Wojewodschaft`), under Polish administration. The western part now belongs to the state of Brandenburg. 20 years ago, the Lubusz region was named cross-border landscape of the year as a result of this historic event. The people of today's Lubusz region combine tradition and modernity, which bring with it respect for cultures and our environment.
Lake and pasture landscapes, forests, moors, swamps and nature reserves characterize the region around Lebus. The Oderberge nature reserves near Lebus, the Pontic slopes near Mallnow and the Reitweiner Sporn with Priesterschlucht near Reitwein and Podelzig are among the oldest protected areas in our country with around 440 hectares. In 1921, the Adonis slopes near Lebus were declared a nature reserve; it is the second oldest nature reserve in Brandenburg and has belonged to the NABU Foundation since 2007.
