Located in the middle of the Oderbruch, there is the small community of Letschin, whose townscape is shaped by three historically famous personalities.
As a thank you for draining the Oderbruch, a monument was erected to the “Old Fritz”, which, thanks to the efforts of the residents, still adorns the center today.
The Fontane family also spent a few years here and ran the local pharmacy. The former inn “Zum Alten Fritz” served as the basis for the writer’s crime novel “Unterm Birnbaum”.
The architect Schinkel also left his mark in Letschin. The Schinkel Tower in Letschin is what remains of the church built in 1818/1819 according to the plans of Karl Friedrich Schinkel.
