My advice: The Oderbruchbahn cycle path
The Oderbruchbahn began operating over 100 years ago. Today, a wonderful cycle route runs along the old route, which I can highly recommend for exploring our travel area. The route passes historic and scenic places and is not just for railway fans.
The path has its charms in all seasons, in spring with the blossoming fruit trees along the path, in autumn with the fruits, the opportunity to observe animals or in the Oderbruch simply to take in the landscape and its history.
My tip: Cycling along our lakes and villages
To compensate, I like to cycle myself. Most of the time, my routes take me straight from my front door through the villages of Tauche, Giesensdorf, Kossenblatt to Briescht and then back via Ranzig to Tauche. The route largely follows the Spree and leads through a diverse and varied landscape, just like the more extensive Schwielochsee cycle tour.
In summer, several clean bathing lakes, such as the one in Ranzig, invite you to go swimming. On the way back, one or two cozy village restaurants invite you to take a break. I like to stop at the "Zur Sonne" restaurant to recharge my batteries before the last stage and to exchange a few words with the friendly landlord Andreas.
My tip: The green city on the lake
Strausberg, the green city on the lake with around 26.000 inhabitants, offers a diverse range of lovely restaurants, leisure and sports facilities as well as a variety of events. Highly recommended are: the climbing forest - CLIMB UP, the Wilkendorf Golf Park, the diving center, the Strausberg Sports World. The area, rich in forests and water, is ideal for cycling and hiking. For boat enthusiasts, I recommend a round trip on the Straussee with the passenger ship "Annemarie" - an electric boat - or a trip on the electrically powered passenger cable ferry - it is unique in Europe!
My tip: The European twin city
If you are here in Frankfurt (Oder), I recommend a walk through Lenné Park in the middle of the city. The park was made possible in the 19th century by the commitment of Frankfurt citizens, who invested time and money in order to work with the city to create one of the first public parks in Germany from the former ramparts. Peter Joseph Lenné, a very well-known partner at the time, was brought on board to design the park and he left his landscape gardening signature in a wonderful way here in the Oder city.
My tip: The Baroque Miracle
The state-approved health resort of Neuzelle is always worth a visit. There is much to discover, such as the former Cistercian monastery with the Catholic collegiate church of St. Mary, a baroque wonder. But the parish church of the Holy Cross and the permanent exhibition of the Heavenly Theater are also worth a visit.
After a stroll through the beautiful monastery garden, you can enjoy a good meal with a view of the monastery complex at the Hotel Prinz Albrecht. The perfect day. Neuzelle is easy to reach with the RE1.
My tip: The Strohhaus Neuzelle
The development of our travel region is impressive. It attracts holidaymakers and people looking for local recreation from all over the world. In the midst of the most diverse landscapes there are a large number of cultural and historical sites. Whether you are a water sports enthusiast, cyclist, hiker or interested in culture - everyone gets their money's worth here and can plan their own individual vacation. Digitalization, a topic in the Oder-Spree Lake District: By setting up the information pillars, the travel region will be even more networked. We are on the right track!
And here is my tip for a trip: The Neuzelle straw house provides insights into the lives of the servants of the Neuzelle monastery at that time. It is a gem among the museums in the state of Brandenburg. The house and stable building with thatched roof and rye straw ridge were built in 1780 by master cloth maker Franz Flickschuh and are among the oldest buildings in the town. The listed building is definitely worth a visit.
My tip: The PanoramaSauna
After a long excursion, the best place to relax is the SaarowTherme in Bad Saarow. My personal tip is the PanoramaSauna. Here you can enjoy a fantastic view of the spa park and Scharmützelsee. The sauna area also offers several Finnish saunas, a bread-baking sauna, a mill wheel sauna, a circulation-friendly organic and salt sauna, oriental steam baths and a herbal room with the scents of various herbal extracts.
Go on your very own personal journey of discovery and enjoy an exclusive sauna experience that leaves nothing to be desired.
My tip: BREATH at the Kurpark
Our health trail "Take a breath" begins on the edge of the historic Bad Freienwalde spa gardens created by Peter Joseph Lenné: special breathing and visual exercises provide support along the way and a silence path is intended to help you just listen to yourself...
And at the end, you can do something good for your feet and circulation on the Kneipp path at the historic Elector's Spring. Incidentally, according to old traditions, the water from the spring is also said to work wonders: The Great Elector, who gave the spring its name, founded Freienwalde's history as a health resort in 1684.
My tip: Discover Altlandsberg
We hosts in the eastern outskirts of Berlin have a very important function: We show day and event guests from the capital what there is to experience in the Lake District, so that on the same day or the next time, your route will lead you to the Schlaubetal, to Bad Freienwalde or perhaps to the Oder.
My tip is the small town of Altlandsberg as the gateway to the rural region, "Brandenburg in a bowl" so to speak, with its old town streets, flocks of sheep and horse paddocks along the historic city wall, as well as the remains of a Hohenzollern palace complex on the castle estate. And all of this just a stone's throw from the Berlin city limits. A regional market with lovingly selected specialties from East Brandenburg takes place here every fourth Saturday of the month, in summer there is cinema, theater and concerts on the Domänenhof, and in autumn and winter world-class musicians come and go in the baroque castle church.
And the tourist information office on site is open every day. In addition to the tourist diversity of the Seeland and nearby Barnim, the Altlandsbergers display a large range of regional products, beer and schnapps directly from the castle estate's brewery and handicrafts from regional artists in the farm shop. Or as the claim of the travel region close to the city says: "Welcome to the gates of Berlin".
My tip: Visit Beeskow
Historic town center, water and culture. These are the most important keywords for visitors to the town of Beeskow on the Spree. Whether you come to the small town in Brandenburg on foot, by bike, by car or by water, a tour of the historic old town with St. Mary's Church, the oldest house and an almost completely preserved town wall with its seven towers is worthwhile at any time of year. And then linger on the Spree promenade. Continue on to the castle, the cultural center with several museums and a wide range of events. There is something for all age groups.
