The Euroroute R1 connecting Calais at the French coast and Saint Petersburg, Russia leads through unparalleled natural and cultural landscapes. On a stretch of over 200 kilometres, Berlin and Brandenburg offer cyclists a plethora of landscapes and feasts for the eyes. You are guaranteed to find some time to relax amidst unspoiled nature in the mellow hills of the Fläming heath, the national park Märkische Schweiz or at the banks of the calm River Oder. The Euroroute R1 takes you on a journey through Germany’s history.The route planners of the Europaradweg have included a few real lakeland classics for the route in the Oder-Spree Lake District. The lakes around Erkner and Grünheide, where cyclists' calves can be cooled in summer, are included. In Garzau you can admire a fieldstone pyramid. In Märkische Schweiz, the Oder-Spree lake district shows its hilly side for once. A photo of the shimmering turquoise Schermützelsee in Buckow is a must in your photo album. 
In the Oderbruch, the unifying idea of the Europaradweg can be experienced in a special way. After the draining of the Oderbruch by the Prussian King Frederick II, in the middle of the 18th century, people settled here who were not well liked by their homeland.
In Neuhardenberg you should get off your bike to take a look at the castle and the castle park - a very special place.
On the Oder-Neisse cycle path, you will head towards Küstrin. This is where the Seenland stage of the R1 European Cycle Route ends. Crossing the Oder River, it becomes clear what an achievement a Europe without borders is.
