Märkische Schweiz

Land of throats and canyons

"Here, on the ice age heights, the mind finally finds the free space it deserves, here thoughts dance."

The oldest and smallest nature park in Brandenburg with its extensive hills, lakes and rivers offers a real paradise for hikers. But not only that - the unspoiled forests, canyons and moors are home to many special animal and plant species. After an exhausting hike, the only state-recognized "Kneipp" health resort Buckow with its water treading places offers the perfect relaxation for calves and feet. In summer, the turquoise-blue lake called "Schermützelsee" can also provide cooling and its color immediately creates a Caribbean feeling.

"Small. Kind of familiar. Peaceful. Safe. - in the middle of nature. Gentle silence."

One of the most beautiful stream valleys in Brandenburg invites you to hike in the Schlaubetal Valley. The Schlaube meanders 27 kilometers through wild and romantic valleys, swampy meadows, sometimes thick bushes, sometimes wide forests and feeds picturesque lakes and mills from a bygone era with its clear water. Also in the Schlaubetal a special animal and beautiful plant world can be observed. After the hike through the breathtaking nature, many local restaurants invite you to end the day comfortably. On the menu you will often find the "Schlaubetal-Teller", an inexpensive dish whose ingredients are fresh from the area and which you should definitely try.

Bad Freienwalde

Mecca for mountaineers

"Freienwalde, long stretched out, at the foot of a chain of hills, composed of gloomy firs, slender birches, austere beeches, from the ground comes healing water. The earth brought itself as a gift."

In addition to its inexhaustible supply of health-promoting resources - the moor baths - the state-approved health resort of Bad Freienwalde is also known for its four lookout towers. Alpine hiking with almost a thousand meters of altitude, four lookout towers and the only Watzmann outside of Bavaria - that is possible here in Bad Freienwalde! You want to really get out on a mountain tour, but don't want to have to drive all the way to the mountains? No problem! In the hilly and canyon-rich Oberbarnimer Hochplateau, hiking fans embark on challenging routes. The ice age glaciers have left their hilly traces. The four towers: Aussichts-, Bismarck-, Eulen-, and Schanzenturm allow a breathtaking view next to the Watzmann - which is actually called that and is a proud 1062 dMeter high.
