Schlössertour

Brandenburg castles tour

After starting in Fürstenwalde, the small town of Steinhöfel is very British. The castle stands in the middle of the wonderful landscape park, which is considered one of the most beautiful in Brandenburg. With its old trees, small temples and many figures, the park surprises its visitors again and again.
You should not miss the castle Reichenow. From Obersdorf you can reach Reichenow via quiet country roads. The house is the youngest member on the route of the Märkische Schlössertour. The flag proudly flies above the tower of the house. The castle park slopes gently down to the Haussee lake. Of course, there's a nice swimming spot here. Sounds like a perfect place for a break. If you would like to spend the night in a castle, you are in exactly the right place. Reichenow Castle is in fact a hotel today.
More castle views can be found in Trebnitz and Wulkow. In Trebnitz, next to the castle, there is a museum dedicated to the artistic work of Gustav Seitz.
In Neuhardenberg, which was still called Marxwalde in the GDR, the history of Prussia can be seen in a particularly impressive way. King Friedrich Wilhelm III gave it to his state chancellor von Hardenberg. Friedrich Schinkel rebuilt the palace into an outstanding example of classicism. It was also Schinkel who, as a young architect, gave the church its present form. Neuhardenberg Palace naturally includes the palace park - a jewel designed by garden artist Peter Joseph Lenné.
No less magnificent are the manor houses and estates along the route. For example, the Alt Madlitz estate, the former moated castle in Beeskow, Groß Rietz Castle or the Sauen manor house, where August Bier lived. The surgeon earned his living as a forester. In the Sauen forest you can see today how a pine forest became a mixed forest.
One thing you should definitely have in your luggage on the Märkische Schlössertour: enough time. Because each of the noble residences and manor houses is an invitation to linger.
