The brothers of the Cistercian Order who built the monastery in Neuzelle in the Middle Ages had a feeling for the special nature of the place. Today, Neuzelle Monastery is one of the few completely preserved monastery complexes in Europe. The entire ensemble is appreciatively called the "Baroque Miracle of Brandenburg". A new museum was even built for the unique Neuzelle Passion depictions, which you should not miss - the "Heavenly Theater". And in the meantime there is also an active monastic life in Neuzelle again. Cistercian monks from Austria have founded a priory in Neuzelle.
Only a few kilometers away from Neuzelle, the monks built a hunting lodge for the abbot in Siehdichum on Hammersee in the 18th century, because he was said to be so enthusiastic about the view. But there are also other places in the Schlaubetal where evidence of the monks from Neuzelle can still be seen today. For the once numerous mills in the Schlaubetal go back to their impact.
Today, only one mill is still in operation - the Müllros mill. The tour passes the Ragow mill, where you can see original mill technology in the mill museum. Let nature take its effect on you as you ride through the wild and romantic Schlaubetal valley and stop for a break at small, secluded spots.
From Müllrose, the bike path leads along the historic Friedrich Wilhelm Canal, which once connected the Oder and Spree rivers.
